Tar and concrete roads must be excavated only using road cutter machinery. If roads are damaged by undertaking work in any other manner, a penalty of double the amount may be imposed in addition to the road restoration charges for the damaged portions. In case of unauthorized road excavation, a double penalty as mentioned above may be imposed. The above charges are hereby ordered to be implemented for one year from 01.04.2025 to 31.03.2026.
Under-Ground Sewerage System
Madurai Corporation has existing Under Ground Sewerage System since from 1927 covering core part of the city. UGSS was provided in South of Vaigai River areas core city area where Madurai was municipality before the year 1971. During the year 1983 – 1986, the areas lying in north of River Vaigai have been sewered. Under NRCP Phase I, 122.44 Km of sewer line have been sewered with 6 nos. of pumping stations, which has been commissioned during the year 2006 and under Phase II 213.87 Km sewer line have been sewered with 12 nos. of pumping stations, and has been commissioned during the year 2008. After completion of NRCP Scheme almost 90% of the erstwhile areas have been sewered Madurai Corporation. Balance 72 Km length of uncovered stretch also provided with sewerage system under JnNURM during 2011. Renovation of very old sewerage system and to treat the collected sewage with advanced and modern technology, under JnNURM.

The Madurai Municipal Corporation drinking water need is being managed with the allotted quantity of 1500mcft (115 MLD) at Vaigai Dam, 30 MLD from River Cauvery Source under Melur CWSS and 29MLD from Vaigai River Bed. The Intermediate water supply demand for 2034 and the population of 19,23,936 is 317 MLD including 15 % transmission losses. From all existing sources the designed quantity 192MLD of water available is 174MLD.The water supply demand gap for 2034 is 1(317-192) 125MLD. To meet out the demand gap of 125 MLD the Madurai Municipal Corporation has analysed the possibilities and decided the drawl of water from the source of Vaigai Dam (i.e) from Mullai Periyar River at Lower camp.
