Heritage Development – Rs. 39.90 Crore. To highlight the heritage of the city to tourists and create better awareness among the local residents. The heritage walk shows the exact route, so that tourists may go for the walk on their own. Madurai being a heritage and cultural city it is necessary to improve all heritage sites to attract tourist. Hence the Heritage Improvement works to be taken in the following heritage location is ABD Area. Tourist Plaza – Rs. 2.75 Crore For enhancing tourism this Tourist plazas act as arrival points for the tourists (at Bus Terminal and at the off-street parking areas), as well as information and amenities center for tourists providing assistance regarding temple timings, heritage zones, accommodation, restaurants, shuttle bus details, inter-city travel info, etc. The Periyar Bus Stand is too close to the railway station and Meenakshi Temple which are located at core city in such a way that tourists can easily get transport facilities to visit other tourist places and reach their destination. Hence this site is opted for tourism plaza where tourist can have short stay to refresh, and enjoy other entertainment facilities. Infrastructure and Basic Amenities at Fruit Market – Rs. 12.00 Crore The infrastructure like, concrete road, storm water drainage, water supply, drainage, street light and parking facilities at a cost of Rs. 12.00 crore under smart city fund, since decongestion of ABD area is one of the component under smart city.
