Water Supply Source Improvement (AMRUT Convergence) – Rs. 102.00 Crore Madurai Corporation proposed to augment water from Mullai Periyar at Lower Camp. Government in 1985 has sanctioned 1500 mcft of water per annum, from this allotted quantity 115 MLD of water is being drawn every day, existing water supply 192 MLD. But actual water supply demand is 317 MLD for the present population. Hence it is proposed to draw (317-192) 125MLD from Mullai Periyar River. In view of this huge demand it is proposed to augment water from Mullai Periyar at Lower Camp. During the normal days 100 cusecs is being released from Mullai Periyar for the water supply demand of Madurai Corporation from Vaigai Dam, but due to percolation, evaporation and illegal tapping, only 40 cusecs is being reached at Vaigai Dam, to avoid this evaporation, percolation and illegal tapping of water a detailed project report has been prepared to augment 125 MLD of water from Mullai Periyar at Lower Camp of a cost Rs.1295.76 Cr. Construction of Convention Centre at Thamukkam Grounds Thamukkam is the only recreational space that unities the whole of Madurai, acting as a significant hub for meetings, gatherings and other recreational activities. Due to trade and commercial activities, this site facilitates high interaction and activities happening now and then in the form of government functions, private meetings, public carnivals, exhibition and much more. Recreational spaces to host exhibitions and other lounge areas are proposed and the cost of the project is Rs.47.72 Crore. Site Area – 9.68 acres / 4,21,660 ft2/ 39,173.5 m2. Under Ground Sewage Scheme – Rs. 275.82 Crore The sewerage system in Madurai was first established by the British to cover the core city area between 1924 and 1959. It was further expanded in 1983. Subsequently, the National River Conservation Project (NRCP) was implemented in Madurai to give underground sewerage System. The existing sewerage network has been laid for an approximate length of 797 Kms including 80.34 Kms of pumping mains to collect and convey the sewage to the main pumping stations. A total of 61MLD of sewage is collected through the existing system. The raw sewage is pumped to the existing sewage treatment plant at 125 MLD STP at Avaniyapuram and 45.70 MLD STP at Sakkimangalam. The North of River Vaigai area the UGD Scheme is prepared to stop the flow of sewage in Vaigai River. This UGD project comprises of 308 Km of Sewer Main, 3 Nos. of Pumping Station and 44857 Nos. of House Service Connections. Streetscape Redesign – Rs. 50.21 Crore The project covers East Maasi street, West Maasi street, North Maasi street & South Maasi street to a length of 3.39 Km. Streets will be designed by giving priority to pedestrians and disable friendly. Underground utility duct for optical fiber cables, Electricity cables, Telecommunication cables Construction of Storm Water Drain (either one side or both sides of the street). SWD system comprising of primary, secondary and tertiary drains. Laying Water Supply and UGD (wherever necessary) lines. Decorative street lights Provision of street signs Provision of road markings Street junction will be designed properly for smooth vehicle flow and will be improved for pedestrian comfort and safety. Retrofit footpath so as to accommodate different type of users without any stumbling block. Water Supply Distribution System (ABD area) – Rs. 80.79 Crore The Area Based Development is one of the concepts of this Smart City Mission. Based on the recommendation of the citizen of Madurai city the area within the Veli Streets has been selected for Area Based Development. This Smart Water Supply Distribution System is one of the components under Smart City Mission. 35000 nos. of Water Supply Connection in 15 wards will be covered under this Smart Water Supply Distribution System. Multi Level Car Parking – Rs. 41.96 Crore Madurai being a tourist and commercial hub, has registered a higher vehicle growth rate. Two wheelers constitute 82.60% of the total vehicle. Four wheelers (car, van, maxi cab, jeep, motor car) constitute 11.59% of the registered vehicles and other vehicles constitute around 5.75%. The scope of this project deals with the Development of Multilevel Car Parking near Madurai Meenakshi Temple. The proposed project is located close to the Meenakshi Amman temple about less that 100,00m away and the site falls in two lots bisected by North Avani Moola Veethi. The site is trapezoidal in shape with an area equivalent to 8204 sq.m. The propose structure is a Ground + 2 basements framed structure with floor height of 4 m. The Ground Floor would be utilized for Tourist infrastructure development and Heritage development activities. The first basement below the Ground Floor is provided for car parking and the second basement is meant for Two- wheeler parking. Vaigai River Front Development – Rs. 84.12 Crore Vaigai River improvement works includes Counter- fort retaining wall, Development of Road and Pedestrian pathway along the roads, Provision of Compound wall / fencing, Development of Walkways, Development of Greenbelt, Development of Platform and steps, Tree Seating, Development of Park with Children’s play area, Lighting Arrangements, Provision of Toilets/ E-toilets etc., which will be a cultural and recreation spot for the public of Madurai and Tourist.
